The better part of 2013 I was attached to South Sudanese newspaper The New Nation, as an editor and trainer. In this Belgian-funded project the aim was to create a high-quality newspaper in the world’s youngest nation. We did, until the outbreak of war in December 2013 disrupted activities for three months – the period when I decided to return to Europe.

I love sharing my experiences with as many people as possible and will go an extra mile to tell journalism students about being a freelancer in Africa. Since January 2014 I gave lectures at Windesheim College in Zwolle and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. I participated in a debate on gay rights in De Balie in Amsterdam and was also asked to speak about the Lord’s Resistance Army rebel group after a documentary shown at the University of Amsterdam. Feel free to contact me for debates or workshops considering foreign journalism or Africa.
